Game of Destiny, Book IV: War is the forth book in J. Seab’s oddment quest series. Seab’s Game of Destiny books are not only rich in characters and story but also portray the indomitable will of a people who refuse to sacrifice their ideals of peace and wellbeing to the violence of war born by the pathologies of greed from humanity’s failed past.

Devastating attacks by the invaders have thrust the peaceful communities of Etus into turmoil. Geldane demands immediate retaliation but his companions are uncertain the people are prepared for the consequences of an all-out war with the brutal forces of the Sworn.

But Etus may not have a choice.

Everam and Geldane set off on a perilous expedition to locate an ancient cache concealed somewhere within The Wastes, an unexplored swamp in southeastern Etus. After slogging for days through muck and rot while battling beasts and bugs, they are thwarted by an animated construct that refuses them passage.

Art, traveling aboard a seaworthy catboat and accompanied by a group of dolfins and Orcs, searches for a site on an uninhabited island to serve as a naval base. Art must train the group to patrol the passages from the Madrid Sea and learn how to deploy his forces to stop the invader’s reinforcement and resupply ships. But they soon discover that the area they have chosen is called the Isles of Fang for a good reason.

Clarity Burns, still trying to settle into her new responsibilities of helping the invaders subdue Stonybruk, is suddenly pulled in different directions by feelings she never expected to have when Captain Callen re-enters her life. Her feelings are further complicated when Willow, bearing the Staff of Truth, comes to Stonybruk to share messages of harmony that compel Clarity to question the foundation of beliefs that have been pounded into her since childhood.

Geldane, after returning from the cache expedition, is finally given the action he demanded: the Etusian Patrol launches its first counterattack. A small band of specially equipped Patrol units attack the invader’s recently discovered fort. But they quickly learn that in war things are not always what they appear to be.

The ugliness and chaos of war escalate.

The players of the game are forced into roles and actions they never anticipated.

Can Etus survive without sacrificing the peace and wellbeing it has evolved across the millennia?
