Introduction

This eBook is in honour of Graham Smith (15th June 1935 - 15th June 2011) who was known locally as The Egg and Sausage Artist in the St Helens area of Merseyside. It gives an insight into the man and his work. Having met this fine artist with a wonderful sense of humour and becoming familiar with his work I wanted to produce the first book about his art being his number one fan as Graham Smith deserved International recognition.

This eBook explains why Graham painted what he did and shows images of some of his art works. By understanding why he painted what he did you will have a better insight of the man being the art.

Graham painted genres such as portraiture, religious subjects, landscapes and still-life. He received some fame during his lifetime and was occasionally in the local press. An American television company interviewed him for a programme about eccentrics to which I have provided the link near the end of the eBook.

Graham ran a Christian book shop along with his wife Shelagh and helped to spread the word of God. Some of his pictures were considered so offensive by a minority of people that the windows of the Christian book shop occasionally had a brick thrown through them.

By the time you have read this eBook you will have a better understanding of the great man and his work as well as the manner in which painted them.

Graham nearly always painted using oils on canvas and these were inexpensive materials purchased from his local art shop. He never mixed his colours and used a limited number of colours. But, what he produced was clever, humorous, natural and inspirational.
