Grief and Disappearance is one of the few studies about the impact of disappearance and the psychosocial and therapeutic interventions required for grieving relatives.

This book examines the theoretical background of grief and gives an insight into the nature and complexity of grief and mourning. Further, it describes various conflicts that arise out of the loss of a loved one in the context of disappearance. Additionally, it discusses forms of coping strategies that relatives adopt depending on their individual identities and cultural background.

The book uses case studies to analyze collective forms of dealing with disappearance and coming to a closure. The impact of death certificates, truth commissions, exhumations, memorial places, and forms of art and symbolic rituals are points of analysis.
