'We believe in an Ireland where society is changing rapidly and evolving in all directions. However, one thing that has not changed is the need constantly to strive for harmony in the home - in families and in relationships. This timely book offers practical solutions to the difficulties being experienced in this area by many people today.' Seamus Brennan TD, Minister for Social and Family Affairs

Despite the changing and more diverse nature of contemporary society in Ireland, the need for a peaceful home life is still universal. Following on from the community awareness education programmes developed by the authors, Harmony in the Home provides guidelines for dealing with the relationship problems that can upset the balance and peace of a home.

Presented in a question-and-answer format, the book relates the actual experiences of men, women and young adults to which the authors respond with sensitivity and grounded practicality. The various problems related are representative of a broad spectrum of home situations, reflecting the move away from the traditional model of the home.

Among other issues, Harmony in the Home offers advice and suggestions on relationships, conflict and violence, bereavement and the law.

Dr Justin Brophy is Consultant Psychiatrist in Wicklow Mental Health Services. He has worked in mental health for over twenty years and has interests in suicide research, public and medical education, and mental health policy and law. He is former Chairman of the Irish Psychiatric Association and is also a Director of the Irish Association of Suicidology.

Sr Kathleen Maguire MA directed education, pastoral and social programmes in Pakistan and India for twenty-six years, taught in the Community College, Mullingar and facilitated community and pastoral programmes in Mullingar parish. She is currently facilitator of community awareness programmes on Confronting Bullying, Facing up to Suicide and Harmony in the Home.
