Zeke shares the fate of many modern university graduates: A minimum wage job and the feeling that he could be doing more with himself. He also finds himself at the end of a long-term relationship, one that had sustained him throughout his university career.

So, left with nothing to keep him in his rut, Zeke decides to try something completely different: He decides to teach English in South Korea.

Zeke finds the work fulfilling enough but it's not long before Ji-Hye (Gee-Hay), one of his co-workers, catches his eye. As they grow closer and closer, Zeke feels like he's finally found what he wants despite his foreign surroundings. But has she?

Loosely based on the author's own experience teaching English in South Korea, Heading East, Looking West (Part 1): August & September tells the story of Zeke's departure and his settling into expatriate life in South Korea. This part contains chapters 1 and 2 of 10 and is approximately 10,000 words.
