‘Engaged’ the world struck me, and I deduced that the woman with my son was my daughter-in-law. I could not believe my eyes. The woman with him had short hair, very small face and half of that covered with glasses. She was in blue jeans trousers and a bright red pullover. I noticed that the designs on her pullover were very beautiful. I simply stood there, without saying anything.
I controlled myself, hiding all my feelings from my son and his girlfriend. I said to them, “Come and sit here, I will call your father,” I pointed to the sofa in the room and went out onto the lawn to meet my husband.
He was still busy reading his daily newspaper. The newspaper had only four papers but I knew that he would take about eight hours to read the entire paper. In the evening he would fold it neatly and stack it in the store room.
I approached him and said, “Come inside, your daughter-in-law has come. Come in and see her properly.”
