Hellritch continues the story begun in Creedor. It chronicles the new adventures of Dr. Simon Slogar and Commander Michael Camdus in their struggles with the Q'Aron Empire, whose leader is hell-bent on destroying the Reglon Empire. Their work is complicated even more when the two Emperors butt heads yet again. Along the way, they encounter wizards, witches, changelings, and a feisty chaun, among other free-wheeling characters. Q'Aron emperor Hellritch is so despicable that he makes the Q'Aron emperor Jarlod seem like a saint, well almost. This book, the second in the series, takes the reader through a unique Christmas season that starts out as a celebration but devolves into a life or death struggle. Readers will find the characters they either loved or hated in Creedor evolving, some for the better and some not so much. Like Creedor, Hellritch is filled with humor, poignancy, and plenty of action. It is a fairly quick read that is thought-provoking as it maintains relevance to our world today, even though it is set far into the future.
