From 1965 to 1980 Rhodesia was involved in a bitter struggle against communist-backed forces intent on overthrowing the country. “C” Squadron Rhodesia Special Air Service played a leading role in the conflict. Four-man SAS call signs operated far and wide in both Mozambique and Zambia taking on the enemy in his own backyard.

Long hours of gruelling patrolling and waiting for signs of the enemy, followed by seconds of fierce fighting, epitomised the elements of this saga: Hot and Cold

Brian Jackson was an SAS soldier and this is his story.

About The Author

Brian Jackson was a soldier in the Rhodesian SAS, C-Squadron from 1970 to 1975 and reached the rank of Sergeant. He also became a diving, drill and weapons instructor.

Before this he served in the South African army in 1965 in the Parachute Battalion in Bloemfontein.

Brian’s love of the bush and wild animals, led him to find employment as the Chief Nature Conservator in the SA Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism from 1982 - 2009. The skills learnt in the SAS were invaluable in anti-poaching operations along South Africa’s northern borders.
