Hot Chips is a very eclectic collection of children's poems that are unlike the works of more traditional writers Some are gentle. Others have a quirky edginess that will appeal to those with a more abstract view of children and life. Sixty two poems cover a multitude of subject ranging from dislike of a single pea left on a dinner plate, to a catastrophic situation brought on by a little girl's obsession with hot chips. There are fishing stories involving stocking the bathtub with a giant carp caught in a creek. Or, when the weather is bad and the fish aren't biting, a little boy might try fishing in in the toilet. There are poems of humorous tragedy because Little Dirty Danny wouldn't wouldn't clean his room. Every poem has a different theme or point of view from what one might find in more traditional children's poetry. While this a collection of situations and stories as seen through the eyes of young children, there are enough twists and turns to keep adults interested and entertained. Read the first entry "Hot Chips" to your kids at bedtime, and be prepared for what happens.
