The year is 2112. Humankind has spread itself out across the galaxy, colonizing other known worlds and solar systems. A number of other sentient species have been encountered but do not seem to be evil or filled with hatred for mankind, as popular culture on Earth would have one believe.
There is, however, one species with very imperialistic tendencies: the Valrians, who threaten to shatter the, albeit unstable and cold, peace of the galaxy. In anticipation of a future conflict with the Valrians, the Human Republic on Earth orders that all their star systems recruit military reservists that can be called upon in the instance of war.
Due to bureaucratic oversight, each system has been ordered to recruit the same number of reservists but the Sandra System does not have a large enough adult population and has to recruit more cadets between the ages of 15-18 to fill the reservist quotas.
Fifteen year-old Captain Joanna Kingston is one of these cadets. She is the best of the absolute worst, meaning the remainder of her crew are worse than her. Luckily, her crew are being ‘babysat’ by Gina, an AI unit whose primary objective is to ensure that they do not crash HRS Phantom, their small B9 stealth spacecraft. Fortunately, a war with the Valrians does not seem likely, so she and her crew assume they will never see combat. However, when the entire crew of the Sandra HR Space Fleet is destroyed in an interrupted training exercise by the Patriarchs, a species from another galaxy intent on adding the Milky Way to their vast Patriarchy, Kingston and her crew find they are the only thing that stands between them and the freedom of the galaxy.
War, blunders, incompetence and humour abound in the debut Sci-Fi, YA, Action-Adventure, Comedy Novel from Aiden Francis Luke.
