A native of Dublin, Brendan Price is the founder of the Irish Seal Sanctuary, a marine biologist and lifelong wildlife activist. He now lives in a quiet country village outside Dublin called Garristown from where he continues his life's work in wildlife advocacy and the defence of Ireland's marine ecology. Here he tells a few of his remarkable adventures in his constant contacts with the natural world.

"Wildlife is an ambassador for the global environment. It is the 'canary in the mine' and the most efficient and vital indicator of the health of the 'life-support systems' of our planet. What ails wildlife ails humanity and, what’s more, wildlife holds the secrets to living sustainably and harmoniously on Earth, our home." Brendan Price.

A life dedicated to wildlife conservation and the defence of the natural environment has given Brendan Price a rich tapestry of experiences with the natural world and its interaction with human society. These have sometimes been controversial, often joyous, frequently comical and sometimes heartbreaking.

From the labyrinthine edges of a long-past childhood in Dublin to the wind-swept West coast of Connemara, Brendan's experiences as a wildlife conservation professional describe the social and environmental landscapes of Ireland's past and present. Meanwhile, he always points ahead with his dedication to a sustainable future for humanity and the natural environment that surrounds and supports us.

In the best tradition of storytelling, these timeless and universal sketches are not just historical and entertaining. They kick off a conversation, draw you in and inspire a reaction on the important stories of today and tomorrow.

Come travel through our natural world with a lifelong pilgrim, through the social and physical landscapes as familiar to the author as the early city suburbs, mountains, and seascape where he grew up.
