He is co-author of Quirk Books' Geek Wisdom: The Sacred Teachings of Nerd Culture, and his work has been featured in Q-News, Illume, and The Huffington Post. He is also contributing editor at Altmuslimah.com. Facing a time crunch, the producers proceeded without Depp and cast actor Jeff Yagher (V) in the part and moved ahead with production on the pilot.
Several weeks into filming, the showrunners realized that Yagher wasnt an ideal fit, and they again circled back to their original choice. Despite his abject refusal to consider it previously, he finally relented. Said Hasburgh later, about Depp accepting the part: We knew we had the right man for the job."
Depps addition necessitated much of the pilot being re-shot, but it also meant the difference between the series being picked up and rejected. On the strength of the pilot and Depps complex, thoughtful take on the young detective Jump Street went to series.
