It isn't often that a manuscript is written which contains such incredible yet, at the same time, perhaps futuristically attainable, propositions that even the author can't wait to see what will happen next !
Appropriately, then, the main character is both writer and philosopher, with a taste for the eclectic and esoteric. Latent beliefs soon manifest themselves into actual realities, or to be more exact, unrealities which at the same time also exist .....
An incongruous group, comprising of a sophisticated entrepreneur, who is also the writer's agent, a sweet old lady who initially introduces herself at a book signing, and a seasoned bishop with a wry approach to theological issues, soon become inseparable, if not in waking hours, then within their dreams.
Astral travel is the vehicle through which they all meet regularly. Amazing events are facilitated by frequent visitations to this other experience - the creation of a desert island, appearance of a galleon, and subsequent search for treasure, which invokes the involvement of national security... Can anything tangible be transferred from one realm to the other and if so, with what benefits and/or consequences.
Short story competitions are never like the one portrayed within the storyline. The setting of a 'First Reading' of the winning entry will probably not be surpassed in real life, nor will be so spectacularly presented, neither will the prize money or trophy be so magnificent. And what of the 'twist in the tail' - perhaps the biggest astral and philosophical development of the whole plot, which is succinctly revealed in the last three words of the book !
An enjoyable and unusual read for both the initiated/uninitiated into astral travel capabilities, lucid dreaming, and philosophical contingencies and possibilities. Paradoxically, both a light-hearted and a deep read, with moments of humour incorporated throughout most unusual concepts.
