Kitab Suci Al_Quran ialah kitab suci bagi umat Islam. Menurut ajaran Islam, al-Quran ialah wahyu yang Allah SWT turunkan kepada Nabi Muhammad SAW melalui perantaraan Malaikat Jibril yang sampai ke zaman sekarang secara mutawatir. Perihal diturunkan Al-Quran mempunyai kaitan rapat dengan Lailatul Qadar. Al-Quran diturunkan kepada Nabi Muhammad SAW secara beransur-ansur dalam waktu 23 tahun.
Dalam salah satu ayat yang terdapat di dalam Al-Quran Allah berfirman: "Sesungguhnya Kamilah yang menurunkan Adz-Dzikr (Al-Qur’an), dan Kamilah yang akan menjaganya". (Al-Hijr 15:9)
Lafaz Al-Quran dari segi bahasa adalah bacaan atau himpunan huruf dan kalimah. Ini berdasarkan firman Allah:
Sesungguhnya Kamilah Yang Berkuasa mengumpulkan Al-Quran itu (dalam dadamu), dan menetapkan bacaannya (pada lidahmu); Oleh itu, apabila Kami telah menyempurnakan bacaannya (kepadamu, Dengan perantaraan Jibril), maka bacalah menurut bacaannya itu; (Surah Al-Qiyamah, 75:17-18)
Manakala dari segi istilah pula, al-Quran ialah kalam Allah yang bermukjizat diturunkan kepada Muhammad melalui perantaraan Malaikat Jibril dalam bahasa Arab, diriwayatkan secara mutawatir dan membaca setiap hurufnya adalah ibadah, bermula dari Surah Al-Fatihah dan berakhir dengan Surah An-Naas.

These codices had differences that motivated the Caliph Uthman to establish a standard version now known as Uthman's codex, which is generally considered the archetype of the Quran known today. There are, however, variant readings, with mostly minor differences in meaning.
The Quran assumes familiarity with major narratives recounted in the Biblical scriptures. It summarizes some, dwells at length on others and, in some cases, presents alternative accounts and interpretations of events. The Quran describes itself as a book of guidance for mankind 2:185. It sometimes offers detailed accounts of specific historical events, and it often emphasizes the moral significance of an event over its narrative sequence. The Holy Quran is used along with authentic and reliable hadith to interpret sharia law. During prayers, the Quran is recited only in Arabic.
