This is a story about a boy who everyone thought did not listen to others. His parents and teachers were always telling him off. Kwaku’s mother eventually finds out that Kwaku has difficulties hearing, so they seek help as a family to sort out his hearing difficulty. Kwaku’s story illustrates the problems children with difficulties such as hearing or sight face on a daily bases, the importance of communication within relationships, understanding, compassion and how family, friends and teachers working together can solve problems. 

The theme throughout the Kwaku series is to show a positive portrayal of the African Caribbean family, its traditional and modern values. Kwaku and His Hearing Aid tackle the issues of hearing impairment, how it can affect a child and the child’s learning.
