For over 30 years the author has written a letter to his son every week.
The letters cover everything from news and events, to fishing and golfing stories, as well as reminiscences from his childhood and his days farming.
“I had some amusement when one driver pulled up and started to talk to me as though he knew me. This man, in a white pick-up, informed me that he had called at the house and, not finding me in, had proceeded to the shed and had a look at the truck as requested. He advised me that a couple of bolts had needed replacing and everything was now OK.
I thanked him politely for the prompt service and prepared to move on, but he then told me that he had borrowed a coil of rope hanging in the shed as he had a job to do that afternoon which needed such an item. He would return it as soon as possible, so I assured him that was fine by me and proceeded.
Somewhere somebody is missing a coil of rope.
One does what one can to keep the rural sector on its toes.”
