Post battle Cáel moves among the survivors feeling their shared loss and trauma until he is needed to more fully explain to the Romanian leadership and is flown to the HQ accompanied by Chaz, Rachel and Pamela. The Romanian casualties so far were seventy-three KIA, 63 wounded; some would not survive. Ajax brought fifty-one men and one traitorous Amazon to the Castle of the Seven Skulls. Three escaped, five were wounded and captured, the other forty-four, plus Ajax, perished. Diplomacy, sovereignty and legality all reared their ugly heads Russia, the United States, the UK, Romania, Hungary and Ireland were now all interested parties. The posturing and name calling went on for sometime, in the end an acceptable fairy tale was concocted for public consumption, the truth, no one wanted it released.
Cáel had a chance to speak with Vincent before he was medevac to a US Military Hospital in Germany and then home to the US. The rest would be on the move soon.
Hana and Cáel talked by phone with Buffy in earshot - some truth and some lies were spoken and a tentative meeting arranged for Rome. Hana was headed east with the U.N. Humanitarian Mission to the Khanate with a stop over in Rome; Cáel was headed west to the US via Rome to meet with the Host and also interested US agencies. Several interested parties wish to discuss more fully Cáel's part in sending hundreds of thousand soldiers into action.
The team needs R&R and a chance to replace their loses. Cáel needs to mentally assimilate his experiences and Alal's memories. He now realizes his Machiavellian Grandfather is the mind behind the attempt to use the GSS to control the world's future...First there is Rome and Hana!
