In "Go Tell It on the Mountain", the author has made several references to the Holy Bible. The story of Ham is the most significant of all. The story of Ham goes like this in short: Ham was the son of Noah. One day, he saw his father naked. Noah was furious and he cursed Ham’s son Canaan that he would become the servant of the other sons of Noah.
There are several other references to several other biblical characters and stories. At one point in the novel, there is an allusion to the story of Moses while he happens to be leading the Jews out of Egypt.
