“Cold Mountain” by Charles Frazier was first published in 1997. It is a historical novel. It was a highly successful novel and it won the United States National Book Award for Fiction.

W. P. Inman is the male protagonist of the novel. He happens to be an injured deserter from the Confederate army when the American Civil War is about to end. The novel tells the story of W. P. Inman and his beloved Ada.

Having deserted the army, he continues to walk for several months to come back to Ada Monroe. After the death of her father, she happens to be spending her life in isolation on her father’s farm.
