Looking back at my beginning in Crystal Rivers, Florida, I realize that I didn’t place much value on God and sure didn’t think He thought about me or that He considered me to have any value to Him. I believed I could make everything happen on my own. I was a hard worker, loved fishing, was willing to learn everything I could, and put into practice everything I learned to become a successful commercial fisherman.
There were many people praying for me, my mom, my dad, my wife, and many others. They would tell me that I was important to God and that He loved me and would always be with me if I would just repent of my sins and accept His love and grace. I rejected their logic and their God, thinking I could make everything happen on my own.
It was only after I saw miraculous, supernatural things happening in my ordinary life that I had to acknowledge that Jesus Christ was intervening on my behalf to protect me and save me when I could not help or save myself. I came to believe and accept that I must be important to Him. Why else would He do things to help me when there was no human explanation for the supernatural events happening before my eyes.
After I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, it became very clear how much He cared for me and the great value He places on each one of us. In the face of great challenges and many treacherous days and nights on the water, my Lord intervened on my behalf over and over again. I could never again doubt how much He cared for me. God places great value on each of His creations, and He has a purpose for each of us to fulfill by His direction, love, and grace. It is my prayer and His desire that everyone receives His saving grace and realizes how valuable they are to Him.
