Boredom consumes Psaras’ day to day life, despite being charged with the honor of providing for his family. When a warship crests the waters of his small isolated Greek island, he’s entranced by soldiers of Alexander the Great.

Their red and brass uniforms—and especially their swords—feed the teen boy’s desire for greatness. He stows away on the ship, determined to join the army. He befriends a squad leader who teaches him to fight, and introduces Psaras to ambition.

As he rises through the ranks, he displays ingenuity and adaptability in battle after battle. Psaras gains the notice of King Alexander himself, and mutual awe results in a close personal relationship.

Psaras’ loyalty and achievements make him a general at a young age, well on his way to becoming a legend in his own right.
