I graduated from high school in the “make love, not war” generation of the sixties. At my fifth high school graduation reunion one classmate said with a wink “We’re living in sin” - an expression for cohabitation. Yes, my generation had inaugurated the normalization of the separation of love, sex, marriage, and children. Also, by that time I had uprooted my mainstream Christian worldview and found comfort in the Adventist tradition. In hindsight, I would say that I did not want to live with my generation, preferring a bygone era where love, hate, right, wrong, inclusion, and exclusion were clear. By age fifty I began to realize that my view of all of those things would not be any different if the event depicted on the cover of this book had never happened. Likewise, the “cultural war” barrages of the last few decades would not have been any different if God had never come to earth to show us the essence of love. Now, twenty years later, I invite you walk with me through some episodes of my life in hopes that you will know the God of love so that you can pass that knowledge on to succeeding generations. .
