The resolve to write on an issue that is so sensitive and very rarely discussed in Christian circles is a daring endeavour. I have carried this burden for close to two years (before the first edition of 1999). It took a long period of waiting on the Lord, seeking God's face on the courage to write, what to write and how to present it. I thank God that He has again led us into His victory by making possible the release of this book, despite the devil's fierce opposition.
Readers are bound to wonder where one gets the illumination and ideas that provide the input for this book. I would say that our principal sources include: personal battles and experiences, inputs from Christian literatures, and insights gained from counseling and deliverance ministrations.
From these sources and from revelations from people in the occult whom God has saved by His own matchless power, I know that the problems of lust and sexually-related sins are real in the church today, and the bondage to sexual sins is far more pervasive today than it was when the first and second edition of this book were released in 1999 and 2010, respectively. Between those periods and now, internet and smart phone rave has become more pervasive, cutting across generational divide. Sexual perversions have become extremely widespread, particularly fornication, adultery, pornography, masturbation, incest and homosexuality. I know that this moral degradation and decay has brought great destruction on human society and has greatly weakened the church and the strength of God's people. I also know that many people are secretly searching for a way of escape but do not know where to turn to or who to talk with, without feeling ashamed, disgraced or embarrassed. Yet this ravaging and destructive problem remains.
Indeed, I must stress that I write this all-important book with a great sense of responsibility and awe. I do not write to censor or condemn anybody, or as one that sits in judgment, or is already perfect. One becomes free from the sin of lust only by the grace of God, and not at all by will-power, pious asceticism, or through a deep knowledge of theology, sociology or psychology.
As I indicated above, part of the content of this book is obtained from personal experiences of conflicts, struggles and victories over the power of lust. After years of struggle, I found deliverance from the stranglehold of lust, by His grace, because I resolved very early in my Christian life that nothing less than holiness, inner purity and a complete appropriation of the finished work of Christ on Calvary would satisfy me. I believe that it is the insights gained from these personal crises and eventual triumph that have preeminently but humbly prepared me, as pre-ordained by God, to author this book.
Every Christian is encouraged to read this book without feeling any sense of embarrassment or unease. It is hypocritical or pretentious for us to deny that our spiritual treasures are still in earthen vessels, and that we are constantly open to Satan's onslaughts, who is always seeking to defile our souls and weaken our strength. What is important is to expose the devil, defeat him, free ourselves from his destructive grip and stand in the liberty in which Christ has made us free, not being entangled anymore in the yoke of bondage.
