The last of Maputaland’s legendary Sihangwane elephant find sanctuary in a game reserve on the border of war-torn Mozambique. Seeking only peace in the wilderness he loves, soldier turned game ranger, Stuart Macpherson, finds himself caught up in a web of intrigue, witchcraft and violence. While battling merciless poachers, Macpherson must pursue a killer elephant, christened ‘uSathane,’ (Satan) by the Zulu game scouts. Battling elephants, night ambushes, contacts with AK-wielding poachers and epic hunts, take a toll on Macpherson and his marriage while his sense of duty sends him on one final hunt.

About the author

After two tours as an infantryman in Vietnam, Ed Ostrosky moved to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) to pursue his boyhood dream of becoming a game ranger. He served as a ranger in Hwange and Chizarira, as senior ranger Mana Pools National Park, and as a combat tracker. He immigrated to South Africa in 1982 and joined the KwaZulu Bureau of Natural Resources. He founded and managed the Tembe Elephant Park for 17 years and his experiences in Maputaland during the late 1980s provided the basis for this, his first novel. Ed lives in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa with his wife Trelda and continues to offer training to conservation agencies.
