“Mastering Office Politics” is an in-depth discussion of one of the main areas of life which takes up virtually 70 percent of every working personnel’s waking hours. There are a virtually unlimited array of strategies in dealing with countless scenarios. It is akin to the art of war, and in fact, many principles of the art of war can be employed in this arena.
I have taken the opportunity to describe in detail the necessary principles in mastering office politics, and I do not hold back on discussing any aspect which I feel is necessary to a clear understanding of office politics in the modern working world. Some of the information may appear callous, but this is because I wish to ensure that this book will deal with even the worse scenarios that can happen in companies with the most unhealthy office politics. Politically-correct descriptions or typical slogan-style exhortations such as “do not take it personally” are not the intentions of this book, but instead a hard-hitting, no holds barred treatment of the oftentimes harsh world of office politics is the main theme.
The information is gleaned from experience and careful observations after working for about two decades in several companies, many of which are very different from each other in terms of size, industry, treatment of employees and nature of office politics. I have worked in both private and government companies, large and small. At the same time, I have also incorporated the information I have gained from talking to different people on their experiences in their workplaces in order to make this book as complete as possible in its range of topics.
