This small afghan is comprised of twenty circles-in-squares, otherwise known as “squircles” and the color palette is a simple one of gray, white, and two shades of pink. If pink is not your thing (or your baby’s), it would be quite easy switch them out for two shades of blue, or a neutral aqua or yellow.
With it’s small size, this is an ideal pattern to work on when time is of the essence. A fast crocheter could work this up in a weekend. If you have more time, consider adding some squares and taking the project from stroller size to crib size, and beyond!
REQUIRED SKILLS
You will need to know how to:
make a magic ring
chain stitch
slip stitch
single crochet
double crochet
triple crochet
If you don’t know how to do these things, they are explained within the instructions in the photo tutorial.
A crochet chart for the motif and an assembly chart for the blanket are included with the pattern.
TOOLS AND MATERIALS
The May Baby Blanket measures 20”x24” and consists of five rows of four squares. You are welcome to make your blanket larger, but you will need to adjust the yarn quantity accordingly.
6 hanks of Berroco Vintage, or comparable worsted-weight yarn (roughly 1200 yards) in shades of pink and gray
G (4mm) hook
scissors
yarn needle
TOPICS COVERED IN THE TUTORIAL
More than just a simple crochet pattern, this ebook is like a mini-class. Each topic includes step-by-step instructions and photos where appropriate.
You will learn:
How to crochet a circle
How to transform a circle shape into a square without losing any of the center circle’s roundness
How to join motifs together as you go
How to add a scalloped border to your blanket
Plus:
Ideas for different color schemes
A variation to try
