David Gefflin wants what any self-respecting scientist wants: recognition and success. And his reason for propelling himself so hard into the project to manipulate light and achieve success has Merredin confused. And when he has a breakthrough a few weeks before his contract expires, David embarks on a dangerous path to protect his discovery and invention from his employer. But life is never that simple, and soon finds himself in a struggle for survival which may result in him losing everything as his former employer learns of his achievement and sets out to obtain it for himself, no matter that cost.
