Pets have been a part of the human family for as far back as, well, for as far back as humans have been recognizably human! They are not merely living decorations for the family home-- they are a part of the fiber of life, they are important resources for resilience and shapers of character. I can just imagine an early grunting cave-boy wandering home, being followed by some pre-historic pup, and grunting out to his mom, “can I keep him?” No telling how many broken hearts and crushed “puppy loves” our pet pups have helped heal over the millennia. No telling how many cases of depression have been treated, and how many hundreds of billions of dollars in therapy saved by cats curled up, purring and listening in depressed laps.
Neurological scientific types can tell you about the chemical happiness pets can bring. I just know I love them, can’t imagine life without them, and know that both writing about them and giggling over them does something to bring me jollies, even on the darkest and dreariest of days! I hope you enjoy reading this small collection of pet poetry as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it! And I hope that it brings to mind some of the furry friends who have touched your life over the years, and perhaps along the way, you can use this as a resource to raise money to somehow help the sad and lonely pets in your community through your local pet charities.
