What happens in the on-call room stays in the on-call room. Junior doctors know that. It’s the unwritten rule, an addendum to the Hippocratic Oath. But sometimes... well, sometimes things gets more complicated.

Like when young Dr Sushmita Medhi finds a chisel-featured young man visiting one of her elderly patients, still there long after visiting hours... Like when they make eye contact, there’s a connection, and suddenly the heat of the moment takes over. It’s an adrenalin thing. A needy, urgent, animal thing.

But... well, sometimes these things get complicated.

The opening story in the Mumbai Heat sequence, following a young English-Indian doctor’s romance with the wealthy heir to an Indian business empire. Two young lovers, caught between cultures and continents in an intensely steamy romance from the author of Kama Shastra.

Rati Banerjee was born in Kolkata, moved to North London when she was seven, and then spent her early teens living with family in Mumbai, before returning to London to work as a TV script editor. Her books include Kama Shastra: eight stories of Indian erotica and A Virgin for Dinesh, Manoj and Virat. She is a successful author of romantic sagas under another pen-name, and enjoys using her experience of two cultures to inspire and inform her work.
