What possessed this nineteen year-old to volunteer (or to accept being drafted like so many others) for a distant war in a totally unknown culture? I’ve spent decades pondering my actions. I tramped through I-Corps, the military area bordering North Vietnam, with 20 fellow infantry platoon members. Much happened to our small unit during that year.
