In the wilderness of Russia, twelve-year-old Natalia loses her way while daydreaming and seeks shelter in a hidden cave. She stumbles upon and falls through a magical portal of liquid diamond. She lands in a world filled with mythical creatures both good and evil.
Natalia meets Catalyst, a boy of half Human half Krusnik—a vampire hunter—descend. With a few new friends helping them along the way—including the huge Basajaunaks, a Bigfoot by any other name—they are thrown into a quest to find the crystals that keep the portal locked shut.
Without the crystals in place, war will break out between the Human world and the Kingdoms in the other realm. They must travel through a haunted swamp, through the Gallows (a prison) to their final goal, Ghosts Mountain—the home of the crystals. Evil spirits, vile Elves, and headless Blemmyes try to stop them.
Natalia and Catalyst must get the crystal in time or risk losing her home forever.
