-Excerpt-

"I saw that the moment I opened the door." The bright green gaze was on me, not as fogged or hazy as I thought they might be. Was he deciding something for himself? I didn't think I could overpower him just by being in the room with him. "And there's no cure for the little gift he gave you." No. Layne knew better. He was tugging me towards his seated form, but I didn't want to come any closer. I didn't dare.

"Then that's it. I'm doomed. " I whispered, my voice thick. I didn't try to take my arm back and he just held onto me, my hand almost against his chest. I could feel his warmth. It was tantalizing, and that temptation would get me nowhere. I didn’t have the strength of will to force myself away, though I knew I should. That strange, low hunger rumbled through me still, clouding my thoughts, making me feel slow and a little stupid. It was hard to wrap my head around this notion, that I might have been trapped this way.

" I can still help you. " He spoke, peering slightly up at me from under the unruly shock of his light brown hair. “If you’ll let me.”

" How can you do that? " I mumbled, my words thick. Instead of speaking, he turned my hand over in his own so that my palm was facing upwards. Slowly, deliberately, his head dipped and he took the tip of one of my fingers into his mouth. I felt the hot press of his tongue against my skin and he gently sucked his lips over the tips of that digit. I broke, completely, in one second, a bestial moan ripping itself from my throat. I had never wanted someone so badly in my life…
