Faheem and Sofia Toma have problems with their marriage. He works nights as a security guard while she works days as a janitor in the VA hospital. On the surface, they look like any other working-class American family, with two daughters and a small house in Brooklyn. However, nothing is as it seems, especially after Faheem’s coworker is tragically killed during a bank robbery. Faheem is drawn into a conspiracy theory nightmare when a mysterious stranger offers him a job. All he has to do is keep his eyes open.

Sofia is struggling to keep her secret life hidden from Faheem, but it’s becoming more difficult with every passing day. As each of them follows an independent path towards what appear to be separate destinies, they become engulfed in events unfolding around them. As Sofia is forced to come to grips with what she is, Faheem realizes that he has stumbled into the biggest conspiracy of the new century. With each of them facing the unforeseen consequences of their decisions, Faheem goes to work in Building Seven of the World Trade Center.

On September 11, 2001, his luck appears to have run out, when he confronts terrorists involved in a massive undercover operation that cuts to the heart of American ideals, and even the future of the United States as a democracy.
