Look inside the book:

It was plain enough in the early days of Christianity, when the apostle wrote his epistle to the assembly at Corinth—then the line of demarkation was as clear as a sunbeam; there were the three distinct classes—'the Jew, the Gentile, and the Church of God;' but now all is changed,—we live in a Christian land, under a Christian government, we are surrounded on all hands by Christians, and therefore 2 Corinthians vi. cannot apply to us; it was all very well when the Church was in its infancy, having just emerged from Judaism on the one hand and heathenism on the other, but to think of applying such a principle at this advanced stage of the Church's history, is wholly out of the question. ...Hear the earnest breathing of the inspired apostle on behalf of the saints at Ephesus and of all saints.—'Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what the exceeding greatness of His power to usward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenlies, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the Church, which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all.'

About Charles Henry Mackintosh, the Author:

However the Lord did not suffer me to take such a thing, but called me into larger service than ever, and blessed be His name, owned the service most manifestly, while at the same time He most graciously passed in upon me far more than enough to meet all my need. ...The American author of a brief obituary remarked that he would not allow his 'thoughts to indulge in fulsome praise (of men) – rather to recognise the grace of God vouchsafed to His servant.' An Australian magazine The Message published this in its pages, 'Now to tell of our beloved and honoured brother Mr Mackintosh's departure to be with Christ.
