Olka and Her Blue Parasol is an illustrated children's book based on a poem by the Yiddish writer Kadya Molodowsky. Each illustration is accompanied by both Yiddish and English text.

Although the story is set in the past in Eastern Europe, lively little Olka and her adventures bridge time and culture. As a poor child in Poland in the 1930s, six year old Olka works hard helping her parents and has no time for fun. Or so her parents keep telling her. But she uses her imagination and her special blue parasol to create magical experiences that let her play. Olka's efforts to balance a life of hard work with a child's exuberance and playfulness will delight young readers and those who read to them.

Children will enjoy the lovely watercolor illustrations as well as reading along with the repetitive phrases in the story. Older children can use the book as a tool in learning to read. Recommended for ages three to six.
