Told in his own voice, a gray tiger striped cat, Oscar, decides he wants a home - a desire that becomes his mission. He picks out a trial house with a large new porch furnished with old dried-out wicker rocking chairs along with the two guys who have just renovated the house. In the house is a little dog, named Daisy Mae and an inside Siamese cat, named Hector.

In a few months’ time he learns that comfort is a necessary part of living, even the comfort that included a set of Hector’s blue eyes that follow his every move.

And Oscar makes many moves in his “new world”, which fascinates the reader and painlessly enlarges the reader’s vocabulary.

Oscar learns that all balances involve compromise; the balance between freedom and responsibility is very difficult.
