PLUCK, (i.e. Courage, Determination, Bravery, Fortitude)

This book is inspirational, happy, sad, sometimes funny, educationa

Like the cover of this book says, these are stories of a Spina-bifida baby boomer w/a tad bit of fiction about non-fiction people. It tells about his first memory, a chicken foot on a downtown sidewalk, and his last in the book, another Kenny and the Skilled Nursing Facility where they both lived. It tells of early TV & other passions, street food, be-bop, and George. You’ll meet Ron, Ken’s best friend of over fifty years, Carol, Connie (His favorite of his CNAs in his eight years in-and-out of Nursing Homes.) and other friends.

Born Oct 14, 1950, Ken wasn’t, against 11,000,000;1 odds (I did my homework.) to live past six weeks, from 1950’s statistics. (I’m glad that I’m not a gambling man!) Doctors say that Ken is the oldest living person with Myelomeningocele Spina-Bifida, the most severe of the three types. Now, Ken, at 66 years old, tells that he ‘wants to see a hundred [years old] and to know that he is a hundred and wants to get to the punch and cake on his own at his centennial birthday party.’ At sixty-six (as of this writing) he has plenty of time to write at least an uncommon measure of books. With PLUCK, Ken goes into a parallel of Koko Ken, his Autobiography that he was never happy with (Bad editing, etc. from the editor.). I think that a lot of people would appreciate that he’s doing just that.

This is not your typical 'f a writer’s ‘Complete Works’. This is NOT a collection of Ken Martinez’ books. It is a collection of his stories, his life in sequential order so, if a story was written, two years after Koko Ken was written, that happened early in his life, it is earlier in this book; maybe even embedded into another story. It won’t be confusing.

One more thing; every major character here is Ken, even the ladies. In one story, Clay Jars Of Wine, there are two major characters named Ken (Kenny). Are both of them Ken? Hmmm!

So now, what’s left? Just for you to sit back and enjoy this book, PLUCK.
