Podgy is a lovable brown bear that lives in a cottage on the edge of Webberton wood. During a visit to the wood he meets a magic bee called Olga when she lands on his nose, whereupon they become friends. Because Olga had lost her family and friends in flight on the way to making a new home, she is invited to stay at Podgy’s cottage but when they arrive home he had lost his front door key in the wood. Olga uses her magic power for the first time and Podgy is astonished to find the key back in his pocket and tells Olga what a lucky bear he is having a magic talking honeybee for a friend. The following day Podgy helps Olga to find her family and friends in the wood and it is decided that they live temporarily in his garden shed until he can build a beehive.
