Louisa March leaves her New England home for a Civil War hospital in Washington, D.C. to volunteer as a nurse. Unprepared for the horrors she encounters in the wards, she finds solace in the company of a soldier in her care. Cole, severely wounded, is slowly nursed back to health by Louisa.
