My Blood Approves and Fate were the first two novels Amanda Hocking self-published. In April 2010, My Blood Approves was uploaded first on the Amazon.com website. In May 2010, the book became available through Smashwords. Smashwords is an online service that makes electronic books compatible with Nook, BeBook and Kobo devices.

In only a few short months, My Blood Approves went from selling hundreds to thousands of copies. Positive reviews from bloggers helped lift the book from obscurity. The book was featured on popular blogs such as Sparkling Reviews, Smart Girls Read and Fantasy Book Reviews, which helped boost online sales.

By the end of 2011, My Blood Approves sold thousands of copies each day. The follow-up books in the series “ Fate, Flutter, Wisdom, and Letters to Elise“ were also bestsellers through the Kindle and Nook e-book libraries.
