“As You Like it” by William Shakespeare is a pastoral comedy. It is presumed that the play was written between 1599 and 1600. The play is said to be highly inspired by “Rosalynde” which was written by Thomas Lodge. “Rosalynde” was the early prose romance.

There is no reliable record providing the exact date of the play’s first performance, but there is a mention that the play was first performed in 1603 at Wilton House.

The story of the play is centered on Rosalind, the heroine of the play. She is the most significant character in the play. She runs away from the persecution in her uncle’s court. Celia, her cousin, is also fleeing with Rosalind. With them there is Touchstone, the court jester. The three of them reach a jungle and feel secure there. Finally, Rosalind finds her love in the Forest of Arden.
