Fleet Task Force 13 (TF13) is on approach to the Alsace system, now in alien hands. Karl Zenke wonders if there are any survivors aboard the drifting remains of two shattered task forces sent to defend the system.
To find out, TF13 only has to get past the same Globur battlegroups that savaged a force more than twice the size of TF13. The drifting wrecks of TF6 and TF3 are dotted with alien boarding pods from the titanic clash weeks ago. Now, they may contain only hostile aliens.
Forming spontaneously in the core systems, the "People for Peace" (PFP) move towards the rim, gathering supporters. The PFP believe the Globur are peaceful, the incursion a misunderstanding. Only death awaits them unless they can be turned back, but how?
More warships are being rushed to completion to replace the devastating losses. For now, only TF13 stands as humanity's shield. They must buy the desperately needed time and delay the seemingly invincible Globur.
Can a new strategy blunt the incursion?
