As the war enters its final year, the characters reach the end of their journey, but for some the conclusion will be harder to bear than they might have believed. ‘Retribution’ concludes the story of ‘Lives Apart’, featuring a group of individuals and their families as they face the hardships of war: Joe Price: Still in captivity, Joe wonders if he’ll ever see home again. But, just as he’d imagined his life couldn’t get any worse, he faces losing those he’s come to care for the most. Peggy Cooper: Following the tragic consequences of her friend’s death, Peggy faces yet more uncertainty, but finds solace where she least expects it and, subsequently a new peace and happiness seem assured. Louis Servier: Although he knows he must help Richard, Louis also longs to find Brigitte, but he puts duty first and the two men make a desperate and life-threatening attempt to rescue Pam. Brigitte Fabron: Desperate to escape, Brigitte takes matters into her own hands and finds herself in even greater danger, leaving her wondering whether she was better off with the devil she knew. Marcel Servier: Feeling guilty after Lilly’s death, Marcel wonders if he should pursue his relationship with Jeanne, or whether he should accept that she is simply part of his past. Olive Cooper: Between her drinking and her jealousy, Olive is destined to cause trouble for everyone around her, but even she has no idea how tragic the consequences of one simple mistake might be. Jeanne Coultard: Even though she is now safe in England, Jeanne fears she’ll never be able to relax until she know that Rolf is dead. The question is: will she ever hear that news, or is she destined to live in fear? Pamela Lloyd-Smythe: Betrayed and captured, Pam is on the verge of death and only a very audacious plan and her own will to survive can help her to escape. However, the cost of such a plan may be too high to bear. As the characters finally progress towards the conclusion of the war, they discover strengths they didn’t know they had. For some it is the need to see loved ones, but for others, the need for revenge and retribution overpowers everything else. ‘Retribution’ is the fifth and final part of this chronicle, telling the story of several individuals and their families through the Second World War. *** Some adult content ***
