The entire province of Newfoundland was under a moratorium where catching cod fish was deemed illegal, but that didn't stop Sadie Rose from filling her bucket time and time again, without consequence.

Sadie Rose had been dealt a rough hand in life but she didn't let her limitations stand in her way of making the best life possible. Her father struck her when she was a young girl, and after a week-long coma she was never the same again. The kindly people who lived in the Cove did their best to ensure Sadie Rose knew how to take care of herself while living alone in her small cabin. They weren't very pleased when Sadie Rose discovered she could earn money, and little gifts, from the young studs. No amount of talking, pleading, or begging could change Sadie Rose's stubborn mind.

When a few of the local men decided to play a joke on Sadie Rose, and maybe get her in trouble with the law for catching cod fish, they had no idea she would outsmart them.
