1931 finds Merlin Richards working for an architectural practice in Chicago and trying to develop a friendship with the lovely Sally Fiske. When he is given the task of designing a house in Oak Park for the wealthy meat baron, Hobart St.John, he is so overjoyed that he fails to ask vital questions about the commission.
Why did the assignment go to the most junior member of the firm? How did the prime site become conveniently available at exactly the right time?
