Over the past four or five centuries, as the Christian message has spread across North America, God has raised up many holy men and women, from a wide range of ethnic and social backgrounds, to bear witness in different ways to his glory and his saving power. Something of that history is explored here, through the lives of saints such as Kateri Tekakwitha, Isaac Jogues, Elizabeth Seton, Francesca Cabrini, and others, who all faced very different challenges in rapidly changing social conditions. In whatever situation they were placed, they found ways to show forth the love of Jesus Christ, and make him present to those around them.
