Erich Strelow is a German fighter pilot in 1942. Half his life is devoted to training young recruits and defending the country he loves against the British bombing raids. The other half is spent secretly betraying the Nazi government he despises by helping defenseless Jews secure passage out of Germany. Erich knows that sooner or later the truth about him will be discovered, and he will be dealt with as a traitor. To avoid suspicion as long as possible, he carefully conditions himself to maintain a tightly-crafted persona, and plays the role of the dedicated soldier. But both sides of his life are put in jeopardy when he falls in love with Karina Jenssen, one of the women he's helping. His persona starts to crumble, and he becomes obsessed with getting her to safety. He finds himself making mistakes, and the Gestapo learns of his activities. Now everything and everyone he cares about is put in life-threatening danger.
