The problem that lot of us IT managers run into is that we have a tendency to get all caught up in trying to manage the issues that are before us. What this means is that we tend to neglect the so-called "big picture" and this is a problem because that's where our IT manager career lives…
What You'll Find Inside:
* HOW TO PROTECT YOUR IT CAREER FROM SABOTAGE
* WHOOPS – YOU’VE BEEN REORGANIZED IT LEADER!
* WHAT CAN TOP ATHLETES TEACH YOU ABOUT BEING A BETTER IT LEADER?
* 3 SECRETS THAT EVERY IT LEADER NEEDS TO KNOW
In the big picture, we may believe that everyone that we work with "has our back". However, the sad reality of life is that this is not the case. We need to have the skills and awareness to be looking out for people who want to sabotage our careers. We can learn what it takes to strive for greatness as a leader by listening to what athletes can tell us. However, we're going to need to be prepared to roll with the punches if the company decides to reorganize and we get put into a different position.
We always have to be on the lookout for that next job. If we want to keep our job search secret, then we'll need some help in figuring out what we'll need to do. Perhaps getting an executive MBA might help us in our job search.
There will be times in which we make mistakes. Depending on how big our mistake was, we'll need to know what steps we need to take now in order to deal with the results of our actions. In order to keep our jobs, we will always have to be developing new skills. In our case, this can include learning how to make better presentations and how to use a color wheel in order to make better looking slides to go along with our presentations.
There is always a chance that no matter how hard we try, we may end up getting laid off some day. The good news is that they is not the end of the world for us. What we need to understand is what outplacement services will be made available to us and how we can best make use of them.
