This is a Maritime book in content and style. It opens with a diary page from a nurses journal, followed by the story of Alma Mae, a widow trying to save her home. There is a series of twelve topical conversations with Gerald, about issues such as assets, credit cards and car insurance. Then we meet Selma an RN who can no longer tolerate night shifts (thriller). "Crying in Church" is another diary page from a nurses journal followed by a romance, "Lydia's Folly" where we meet Lydia, a young nurse faced with confronting her actions following an intimate interlude at a medical convention in Toronto. (to be continued) The next, is an opinion piece on physician assisted Euthanasia and the final story is another thriller called "The Jagged Edge" where Alana, a young woman working to earn money for nursing school is being stocked by serial rapist. (to be continued) "Secret Diaries of a Nurse: and other stories" is not easily categorized, and is more a pot luck supper than a roast beef dinner. If it were a quilt it would be a sampler and not a lone star design.
