Sixteen year-old Amy Simmons is feeling miserable. Her boyfriend has just dumped her and her plans for the school break are in tatters.
Worse still, Amy's Dad has arranged a temporary house swap with some people who live in the country. He won't explain, except to say that the house is near a waterfall he used to visit with Amy's Mum, who died when she was two. When Amy talks to the house swappers by phone, she instinctively dislikes them.
When Amy and Dad arrive, nothing about the swap house feels right. Worse, Amy's suspicions about the swappers are confirmed as she finds herself being dragged in to a criminal scam. Not only that, when Dad has to leave for a work meeting, she is menaced by a strange old man.
The only bright side is the new friends Amy makes—a friendly border collie, a biker named Danielle and a trolley boy called Justin. With their help, she must not only evade a ruthless individual who wants something he thinks she possesses, but solve a mystery involving a secret room, a spectacular waterfall and a message from her distant past.
